22:00 flight
Why this order
You fly into Shenzhen (SZX) and take the cross-border HZMB coach straight to Macao — the bridge is the headline experience and gets Macao out of the way first. The coach boards inside SZX airport (T3 Ground Transportation Center, 1st floor, Gate 11) and routes via the Hong Kong side of HZMB, so everyone clears HK immigration in transit (Malaysian passport is visa-free for both). Then a short land border into Zhuhai, a high-speed train north to Guangzhou, and finally the last leg in Shenzhen (Nanshan) so the 19 Sep 22:00 flight out of SZX is a short hop. One night is flexible — if the family loves Shenzhen you can take a night from Zhuhai (skip Chimelong) or Guangzhou and add it to the Shenzhen leg.
Confirmed arrival: SZX 07:20 on 11 Sep. Day 1 boards the HZMB coach at the airport (Gate 11 GTC) → Macao, arriving late morning. No HK airport stop needed.
Visa & documents
Malaysian passport — visa-free
Mainland China: 30 days visa-free. Macao: 30 days visa-free. No visa needed for the whole loop. Carry every passport with 6+ months validity from 11 Sep 2026. The HZMB crossing counts as a Macao entry/exit, so make sure the Macao 30-day clock isn't an issue (it won't be for a 9-day trip).
Money & apps (set up before you fly)
Payments
Set up Alipay and WeChat Pay on home Wi-Fi — both take foreign Visa/Mastercard but verification is easier before you travel. Cash is now the exception; carry ¥500–1,000 as backup. Make a WeChat group for all 8 before departure.

Zhuhai hotel — Gongbei · Home Inn Neo (如家neo)
Booked: 如家·neo 珠海拱北口岸轻轨总站店 (Home Inn Neo)
Full address: 广东省珠海市香洲区拱北街道昌盛路44号新丰大厦1楼; phone 0756-8110086. Right across from Zhuhai Railway Station (珠海站) and ~200 m from the 拱北口岸 (Gongbei land border to Macao) — the closest 如家 to both. Check-in 14:00 / checkout 12:00.
珠海站 ~100 m拱北口岸 (Macao border) ~200 m情侣路 seaside ~3 kmChimelong (Hengqin) ~30 min by car
Why here: base for both Zhuhai nights — step across to Macao via Gongbei, quick taxi/didi to 情侣路 and 圆明新园, and a 珠海站 → 广州南 HSR hop on Day 4. Drop bags after the mid-morning border crossing, then do the seaside PM.
Booking under the 万豪 (Marriott) group: 深圳南山益田威斯汀酒店. Full address: 广东省深圳市南山区深南大道9028-2号; phone 26988888. Sits by 世界之窗站 (Window of the World, Lines 1 & 2), ~5 min to Coastal City mall — the Day 9 世界之窗 stop is a short walk away. Other Marriott / Nanshan options if full:
Late checkout for the 22:00 flight. Nearest metro is 世界之窗站 (Lines 1 & 2). To SZX: Line 1 → 车公庙 → Line 11 (Airport Express) → 机场站, ~40 min; or taxi/didi ~35–45 min (~30 km, ~¥120–150). Request late checkout to ~17:00 when booking (Marriott Bonvoy Platinum+ usually gets it; otherwise a fee). That gives a full last day out, then back to the room to shower/repack before a ~18:30 taxi/Metro to SZX. Keep bags with concierge if you're out past checkout.
Booked pick: 如家酒店(广州永庆坊华林寺地铁站店). Address: 4/F, Huangcheng International Jewelry City, 107 Wenchang South Rd (文昌南路107号), Liwan District — sits between 华林寺站 (Line 8, Exit D) and 长寿路站 (Line 1, Exit A), a 5-min (≈300–450 m) walk to either. Phone 020-81670029. Check-in 15:00 / checkout 12:00. Family rooms available; robots deliver takeout to the room.
上下九步行街 720 m永庆坊 1.1 km沙面 1.1 km陈家祠 ~2 km (Line 1)彩点 Chai Dien dim sum 380 m
Why here: it's the hinge of the Guangzhou leg — walk to 上下九 / 永庆坊 / 华林寺, quick Line 1 hop to 陈家祠 and the 长寿路 dim-sum strips, and the 彩点 (Chai Dien) must-go is a 5-min stroll. Book 8 rooms early; confirm at the front desk on arrival.
Red ★ = hotels (full address in popup). Blue = key stops. Zoom / drag to explore; on mobile tap a pin. Needs internet to load the map tiles.
Weather & senior comfort
Mid-Sept weather
28–33 °C, humid, afternoon thunderstorms, typhoon season. Do outdoor blocks before 11:00 and after 17:00; indoor (museums, malls, aquariums) midday. Every day below has a wet backup.
For mum (elderly)
Umbrella each, electrolyte sachets, flat-shoe days (深圳湾公园, 沙面, 莲花山 are flat/easy). Guangdong's unified senior policy (from 1 May 2026): 60–64 half, 65+ free at public attractions on a physical ID — main gate only, activate at the gate.
Timing
Mid-Autumn is 25 Sep 2026 — you fly home a week before it, so you miss the crunch. Fri 11–Sat 12 (Macao) and Sat 19 (departure) are weekends: book the Macao hotel early and cross to Zhuhai mid-morning Sat to dodge the border rush. Chimelong is on Sun 13 (a weekend — arrive at opening, book tickets online early to beat crowds).

Alt
City walk instead: 圆明新园, 唐家湾 old town, 斗门. Saves a night for Shenzhen if you'd rather.
Wet day: Chimelong is largely outdoor — if a typhoon is near, swap to the city-walk alternative or move this day. The aquarium buildings are covered but queues get wet.

AM
HSR 珠海站 → 广州南 (~52 min, every 30 min, ¥40–65). Metro to Liwan hotel — Home Inn, between 华林寺站 (Line 8) and 长寿路站 (Line 1), ~5 min either way.

Carry-on vs checked: dried seafood, port wine and liquids must go in checked baggage. Keep receipts for any warranty electronics. WeChat Pay beats cash at every stall.
Things to look out for
Typhoon · 台风
Mid-Sept is typhoon season. At Signal 8, the HZMB Golden Bus, land borders and HSR can all suspend. The plan already builds in buffer (Day 7 is flexible, Day 9 is light). If a storm hits, stay put, keep the group together, and rebook HSR/taxi via apps — land routes restore before sea routes. Watch 广东天气 on WeChat.
HZMB crossing
On Day 1 the family rides the SZX → Macau coach across the HZMB (book the 8 seats ahead at the airport coach counter / WeChat). For any other HZMB hop, the Golden Bus (港珠澳大桥穿梭巴士 WeChat account) runs HK$65 day / HK$70 night. Carry passports for two immigrations (HK transit + Macao entry). The bridge ride is ~40 min but door-to-door is 2–2.5h; don't schedule anything tight after landing.
Macao / Zhuhai border
关闸 (Gongbei) is busiest at 09:00–10:00 and 17:00–18:00 — cross mid-morning or after 18:30. Keep the 8 together with the WeChat group. Macao casino "junket" touts near the border are a scam — ignore them.
Senior discounts
From 1 May 2026, Guangdong public attractions: 60–64 half, 65+ free on a physical ID (not local-resident only). Covers the main gate only — cable cars, boats, shows still cost. Some sites need one-time activation at the gate with the physical ID; photocopies/photos are refused. Treat as a bonus, not a guarantee.
Food & health
A table for 8 needs a booking — use Meituan/Dianping or the hotel concierge. Lunch: graze streets (官也街, 上下九, 岭南新天地) so the group can split. Bottled water, peel-all fruit, electrolyte sachets for mum. Avoid raw seafood if anyone's stomach is delicate.
Getting to SZX on Day 9 (19 Sep)
Late checkout ~17:00 from the Nanshan Westin (Marriott). Leave by 18:30 — Metro Line 1 → 车公庙 → Line 11 (Airport Express) to SZX (~40 min) or taxi (~35–45 min, ~¥120–150). 19 Sep is a Saturday pre-holiday, so SZX will be busy; the buffer is deliberate. Confirm the late checkout at booking and again at the front desk on arrival.
Scams to dodge: Macao casino touts, "charity" collectors on the street, unmetered taxis (use DiDi), and anyone offering "free" HZMB tickets off-platform. Pay inside official apps only.
